Chiang Mai Highlights

The Gist

City type: Small city, more of a town where most of it is accessible by walking

Why you’re there? Nature, temples, and AMAZING food

Best for: Co-ed friend groups, food lovers & nature lovers

Can’t Miss:

Entertainment: The lady-boy cabaret: This is truly a must. Get there, have a beer and enjoy the show. Entrance is 290 baht and comes with a beer included. Shows are every night starting at 9:30, get there 15-20 mins early.  Find it here

Nature: Elephant rehabilitation center: There’s a lot of elephant experiences in Chiang Mai, unfortunately almost all of them badly mistreat their animals (elephants aren’t meant to be ridden by people, especially all day/every day). The elephant rehabilitation center lets you spend the day feeding, bathing and hanging out with the elephants. Its an incredibly rewarding experience and I can’t recommend it enough. They have a few options upon your visit, but the short visit still gives you 6 hours and is cheaper at 2500 baht than the other options. Find it here.

Food:

Khao Soi– Probably the most famous dish from Chiang Mai, and it does not disappoint. Where: Lamduon Fahrm Kaosoi – Its the OG (70 years old) and the best.

Pro tip: Go here for lunch, you’ll want to explore the night markets for dinner. Find it here

Chiang Mai South Gate night food market: Oh the wonders! Head up here any time after 6 and just go for it. While the many “meat on stick” options look great, I’d focus on on the vendors selling the fuller dishes. I had the most delicious Tom Yum soup at the vendor pictured, but there are tons and tons of goodies and all are under 100 baht. Special shout out to Mrs. Pa’s fruit shakes which are in the middle of the market.  Find it here

Baanrai Yarmyen Restaurant: The food itself probably isn’t quite as good as the street food, and definitely costs a bit more. However, if you’re looking for a sit-down place with an incredibly chill outdoor atmosphere, this is it. They also accommodate big groups and take reservations. Find it here
