Travel Instructions | Pack your favorite sleeping pills; Its a long flight. Ask the employees at the gate if there's any exit rows or upgrades available. You Never Know | Allow time to get to the Bangkok airport because traffic is unpredictable. Fly directly from Bangkok to Da nang and then take a cab to Hoi An. It will be about 45 minutes to an hour ride | Its about a three hour drive from Hoi An to Hue by car. It's a lovely drive and you also have the option to ride on the back of a motorbike for a full day guided tour (with a great lunch stop). It's worth it but you can also fly for cheap | Fly to Ho Chi Minh from Hue on Thursday Evening. The airport is very close to the city center and there's a ton of options to get to HCM. | |
Why You're there | To eat Thai food of course! Theres also some excellent options for a nicer dinner in Bangkok. Checkout Gaggan or Nahm if you have some cash to spare (it will be much cheaper than finer dining in the US). You can also checkout a rooftop bar or the awesome Chatuchuk market | Hoi An is lovely. Its very slow and a bit too touristy but is still beautiful with a ton of delicious food and activities. It's also a great place to get some clothes tailored (think $150 for a custom designed suit). This is also a great opportunity to go to a cooking school for a day | Hue is very quiet and a day there is probably fine. The food is delicious and the one thing you MUST eat is Com Hen. It's tough to explain this dish but its the perfect balance of taste and texture and has about 30 ingredients. Take a walk around the old imperial grounds for some culture | Ho Chi Minh is like nothing I'd seen. The schools of motorbikes is really something. The food is also amazing. Eat all the street food and make sure to chill out in a cafe and order some Veitnamese coffee. Stay near the Riverside district to be the most central |
